another disclaimer:I tend to ramble and these are just random thoughts. If I do any actual research I will try to be responsible and footnote/ibid. I just need to find my MLA handbook from over 10 years ago.

1/6/06 10:08p Res(v)olution So begins a new year. Why does the date January 1 give people the motivation to do something different, to innovate, to create, to actually have a sense of urgency. What is it about 2006? This year will be phenomenal I have to admit (as is every year). The dynamics of the age of communication will begin to change drastically as there is money backing it for the first time in a long time. People suing companies based on a patent they own but never developed, mergers and acquisitions with Verizon, MCI, SBC, and At&t, Ebay, Yahoo, Google, the slow domination of Jon Stewart, Vonage, what will Bill Gates do with himself, doesn't China scare the crap out of you, and what about India... and why isn't anyone taking Latin America seriously? International EU tax standardization, Sharon, Blair, Bush, and that crazy angry guy in Alaska... Krispy Kreme's are they forever?

12/5/05 1:14am 2 blogs and 1 wiki later. Props to David Weekly and pbwiki team for their quick, helpful, and honest responses.

Learnings: After briefly telling various experts what I wanted to do with my wiki and blogs, I will apparently need to learn Html and CSS? Though pbwiki really does a great job of simplifying the basics quite well for us wanna be geeks.

Met some of the very congenial Oddpost now Yahoo people this weekend and learned about dtml. Document Template Markup Language. DTML is good for creating dynamic web interfaces. It supports reusing content and layout, formatting heterogeneous data, and separating presentation from logic and data. Basically, Yahoo is going to spiffy up their webmail apps and make it more "grownup." like Microsoft Outlook, except, online and free and connected to your instant messenger, and contacts list, and groups, and... you get the idea. Yes, yes, MS has a web version, and so do we and guess what, integrated/UNIFIED voicemail and fax (yes I wrote fax, and yes this is a differentiator)is integrated. With the enterprise version of Nortel Unified Communications, you can launch call, video/audio conferencing, web collaboration, presence, follow me, logs, im history, etc. Our version is for the Enterprise.

With Yahoo, your whole weblife, personal and business, could be connected and stored with them for free. So when, or are, Enterprises (I define this as companies above 50 employees) looking at doing this versus maintaining their own email service as I know companies below that size are already doing this? I once heard a customer say that they were going to put their entire Call Center on Skypes. Aside from the five 9s of reliability, managing screen popups, voice recognition, integration with existing applications, call routing, logging and monitoring calls, agent activity, it was a really good idea... but that is all software after all.

If CIO's 2 highest priorities are Security and High Availability, will these free services reach out to the Enterprise? Is that even an objective? There seems to be an obvious synergy? Anyone? Granted the Fortune 500 will not do it, but if Google and Yahoo really were to be compared to MS, the Enterprise is the space that they don't play in... yet.

Is there a box with apps and control mechanisms Yahoo/Google will put out as well not only to bring these services closer to home while indexing, assisting in the SEM objectives, but also manage what email, online voice, resources are affected and safe while Yahoo mail does upgrades? Is B2C going to take over B2B? Microsoft will integrate search into its B2B portfolio while capturing the hearts and minds of the consumers with Xbox 360. Software/web dev truly is endless. Hardware has physical limitations. Code however has its own world and is forever. For example, Second Life.

I'm really starting to like my Yahoo 360 and my wiki. The blog spot is just posting and I think I will use that site purely for plagiarising other people's content. Maybe when I learn html... But it is only a blog after all and the site suits its purpose. The 360 has custom made options and suggestions. I can monitor friend sites, in a friendly way, not a stalker way. A friendster/my space/yelp/citysearch/linkedin etc. The teams are also constantly building up its sophistication and hooking into various Yahoo pieces and other 3rd parties conveniently. I also checked out My Space, but I think 3 websites in a 5 day period are all that I can take.

12/1/05 PUT THE WIKI DOWN , I REPEAT PUT THE WIKI DOWN

11/30/2005 1:34am I should have been... Should have been a web developer.

so I finally understand why web developers do what they do. It is a constant sense of urgency since a web page really can never be finished and the maniacal pleasure that creation brings. Like Sims. I wonder if the excitement of my Wiki will fade, but I love it. And I can't stop. I've been doing this since 10:30pm. I wish I could shape the pics and organize the page a bit more. I'll have to learn html. Between Work, Grad School, Yoga and my new Wiki, my friends and family may never see me again.

Like Sims, this game will not end until someone dies.
